Desafío Ruta 40 YPF INFINIA: A Race in which Everybody Feels at Home

Nasser Al Attiyah (Nasser Racing by Prodrive), Ignacio Cornejo and Ramiro Barco Oliva (Hero) are already in Córdoba ready to compete in the 12th edition of Desafío Ruta 40 YPF INFINIA to be held in Córdoba, San Juan and La Rioja from June 1 to 7. These three competitors of different nationalities but with strong ties to Argentina, arrived in Córdoba with great expectations.

Hero with South American Roots

Hero MotoSports Team Rally will arrive in Argentina with a team made up of four competitors. The team will bring its flagship rider and current World Rally Raid Championship (W2RC) RallyGP leader Ross Branch; Sebastian Bühler and the two new Hero riders Ignacio Cornejo and Ramiro Barco Oliva.

The Chilean rider will be making his debut under the red and white colors in this Desafío Ruta 40, after many years with Honda. Ignacio Cornejo said about his new bike: “My adaptation to the bike is going well, step by step, we have already done several tests, several training sessions. We need to test it at race pace, so in this race we will see where we are standing and we will continue working, but I am very motivated to get on my Hero.  “The bike is very stable in the desert, it is very easy to handle, too. I like it a lot for drifting, on the tracks, on the roads, so very solid. I like it a lot.” Of course, he referred to the local public and the proximity to his hometown: “Although many of us are not Argentineans, we feel at home. The fans here are amazing, they always support us and they love motorsports. So, we are always happy to come to race in Argentina.”

The other major “acquisition” of Hero is the Peruvian rider, Ramiro Barco Oliva. This means no less than the team’s first participation in the Rally2 class. About this great debut, the rider said: “I am very happy to be here, my first race in the World Championship and my first time with Hero team. They have really given me a great welcome. I am very grateful to them for giving me this opportunity. I hope we all do super well, day by day. The goal is to finish.” In addition, the rider, who is well acquainted with the Peruvian desert, referred to the terrain that DR40 will have: “I like the rivers and the dunes best. This year we won’t find many dunes, but anyway, we’ll give our best in the fast roads, which is also fun”.

Al Attiyah is enjoying the time previous to his “favorite rally”

No doubt Nasser Al Attiyah is the most Argentinian of all Qataries. Used to drinking mate to the rhythm of some trendy cumbia and wearing the blue and white shirt every chance he gets to, the “Prince” enjoys every visit to Argentina, and running Desafío Ruta 40 YPF INFINIA is an opportunity he clearly wasn’t going to miss.

“We are very happy to be here in Cordoba. It is our favorite rally, which we were able to win last year and from which we have many memories from the Dakar and the WRC. I think the Prologue and the Córdoba-Córdoba stage (Stage 1) will run along roads similar to those of the World Rally Championship so it will be really spectacular,” said the Hunter driver.
